A funny bird that I photographed a while ago

Hello world!

My name is Henri. I just got a degree in Frontend Development from Noroff and these are the technologies I have been interested in:

Holidaze

#React #Javascript #StyledComponents #Jest #JSDocs This is a frontend project for an accommodation booking platform. I have used a number of React libraries such as ReactAuthKit, StyledComponents, StyledIcons, ReactDatePicker, ReactSpinners, ReactSpring and Yup. One of the aspects that I am proud of in this project is the beautiful colour palette that I created – it was inspired by a 1596 painting titled View of Toledo, by Domḗnikos Theotokópoulos.

JSF Shop

#React #StyledComponents #Javascript My first React project ever! I created a simple shopping cart for an online store based on an API provided by Noroff. The idea was to practice the concepts of single-page application, hooks and contexts. What I like about this project is the custom search bar. It features an auto-complete functionality that I find pleasant to use. This time, the colour inspiration came from a Marc Chagall painting. He is one of my favourite artists!

#Javascript #Bootstrap #SASS Time for some vanilla Javascript. This is an online auction platform, based on an API provided by Noroff. This project taught me how to work with date formats in Javascript; how to use Bootstrap; and how to customise it with SASS.

A Brief Introduction to Strapi

#StrapiThis is a technical article that I wrote about Strapi, an efficient Content Management System (CMS) that I wish existed 15 years ago – when I was still working as a science journalist. It's incredible how media organisations remain so outdated when it comes to digital content management. That was, in fact, one of reasons that led me to pursue a better understanding of IT and, ultimately, one of the reasons why I became a frontend developer.

Preparing Norway for the next generation supercomputers

#ScienceJournalismYou may not know what supercomputers are, but you use them every day. In this article, commissioned by Simula Research Laboratory, in Oslo, I explore the exciting potential of eX3, Norway's platform for performing hands-on experiments with emerging high-performance computing technologies.

#Javascript #CSS #Wordpress #Headless This is purely a design experiment. My goal was to play around with the concept of "white space", which is, in my opinion, often overlooked by software developers and engineers. The structure of this project is based on a headless Wordpress implementation. Needless to say, we all hate Wordpress. Sadly, it still powers over 40% of the web, so we better learn it.

Community Science Museum

#HTML #CSS This was the second web project I have ever created, so the idea was basically to practice the basics of HTML and CSS. I have included this project in my portfolio because it has taught me important lessons in the realm of UX/UI. In fact, the task here was to create a design that would be appealing to an audience of school kids – between 9 and 15 years of age. That brings up many challenges in the fields of typography, colour theory, usability and accessibility.

#HTML #CSS You gotta start somewhere. This conceptualisation of a streaming platform was my first web project ever! While the code is obviously messy, I like to use this project as a memoir of my early beginnings as frontend development student. Still, this newbie project has taught me important lessons regarding semantic HTML, CSS, Hotjar, responsiveness, UX, UI and usability tests.

Hi there! I used to work as a science journalist. My professional routine was to interview scientist, researchers and all those folks who spend 80% their adult lives in a laboratory. I had to "translate" their complicated words, theories and experiments into a language that could be understood by basically anyone – including people like my grandmother, who may know a great deal about gardening but not much about, say, remote sensing or exascale computing.

Surprisingly, what I learned as a science writer can also be useful for frontend developers. After all, I believe that good code is also a pursuit of elegance and simplicity. That reminds me of a famous quote by French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:

"Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”.
